Explore the Property
Our property map offers a welcoming look at the pathways, gardens, and creekside spaces throughout Briar Patch Inn. Each cabin is thoughtfully situated among native trees and landscaped grounds, creating a sense of privacy, quiet, and connection to Oak Creek. Use the map to get oriented and explore the shared areas available during your stay.
The map was created for Briar Patch Inn by guest artist Parker Lopp, whose stay here with his family inspired a visual interpretation of the pathways, cabins, and creekside spaces that make the property unique.
Meet JoAnn
“JoAnn, JoAnn we owe it all to you” – lyrics of eldest grandchild Lee Ferris ring eternally true for this special place and our family. JoAnn Olson is a fervent lover of nature, art and people. Her ethics in work and in life have inspired her staff and family. The large collection of Southwestern art found throughout the lodge and cabins is evidence of JoAnn’s long appreciation and interest in the Native American Indians of Arizona.
Attention to detail and a love of hospitality have been her legacy for this property and everywhere you look you see a space she has dreamt up, curated and made happen for this haven on earth. At 97, she is still seen visiting with guests new and old, sharing stories of travel and memories of Briar Patch’s history. Her dedication and spirit are reminiscent of the early settlers that made this canyon their home in the 1870s.
Guests often ask about the secret to her energy and longevity, and she answers with a smile: “Briar Patch water!”
A Family Affair
“Rejuvenate your soul & reconnect with nature” – Rob Olson
In 1996, JoAnn and Ike’s son Rob returned from working overseas to join the family business. For the past thirty years, he has managed Briar Patch Inn with the same warmth and dedication his parents instilled—welcoming guests, taking calls, and ensuring every stay exceeds expectations. Inspired by his parents’ generosity, Rob also volunteers on community boards and continues the tradition of hosting organizations that provide terminally ill children and their families the chance to experience the healing beauty of nature. The Olson family remains closely knit, and it’s not unusual to find children and grandchildren lending a hand around the property.
FAQs & Policies
At Briar Patch Inn, our goal is to make your time with us as seamless and restorative as possible. To ensure comfort for all guests, we’ve outlined a few simple policies regarding reservations, late arrivals, and cancellations.
These guidelines help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment while allowing our staff to provide the attentive service that makes a stay at Briar Patch truly special.
Reservations
A two-night minimum stay is required on weekends, and a three-night minimum on holidays. One-night reservations are only accepted within 14 days of arrival, must be paid in full at the time of booking, and are non-refundable.
To guarantee a specific cottage, we require at least a two-night stay. While we’ll always do our best to honor requests for shorter visits, we may need flexibility in assigning cottages to ensure all guests are accommodated.
A deposit equal to one night’s stay is required to secure your reservation.
Late Arrivals
Our Front Desk is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Guests arriving outside of these hours must make arrangements in advance by calling 928-282-2342 to coordinate check-in.
Cancellations
14 days or more prior to arrival: Deposits will be refunded, minus a $30 cancellation fee per cottage.
Less than 14 days prior to arrival: Deposits (minus the $30 per cottage fee) will only be refunded if we are able to re-book the cottage(s) for the full reserved stay. If the cottage(s) cannot be re-booked, guests are responsible for the full amount of any unoccupied nights.
Holiday and Cabin Block Policies
Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and Multiple-Cabin Bookings: A 1-night deposit is required at the time of booking. The remaining balance will be charged one-month (30 days) prior to the scheduled arrival date. Should you cancel less than 30 days before the arrival date, your deposit (less a $30 per cottage cancellation fee) will be refunded only if we are able to re-rent the cottage(s) for the full reserved time period.
