Briar Patch Inn – 7 Grain Bread

Ingredients

6 cups 7 grain cereal   (We use Arrowhead Mills )
1 cup wheat bran
1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1-1/2 2% milk
2 tsp. baking soda
1 cup honey

Mix dry ingredients together. Stir in milk and honey, blending well. Divide into two 4 ½ x 8 ½ slightly oiled loaf pans.   Press into “loaves” rounded in the middle with back of spoon or spatula. Remove from oven and place on rack to cool.

350 degrees for 50-60 minutes.

“This recipe came from Caron who was with us for the first years of our acquisition of the “Patch”. She brought the recipe with her from a game lodge in South Africa where she had worked before immigrating to the states. At the game lodge it was served for afternoon tea while in the “bush.”

Often when we interact with our guests, they ask, “Why don’t you write a book about your experiences at Briar Patch, and please include your recipes.”  For a while that idea had been resting quietly in a corner of my mind when suddenly one morning inspiration swelled up within me, and I said to myself, “You can do it.”  So it is with pleasure that we introduce, The Life and Times of the Briar Patch Inn.  We hope you enjoy our story.
